Colour Checking

Whelp, I finally finished up my last assignment and project for the colour course yesterday so the term is now well and truely done and I get a few days to relax and rest up before the summer term starts. Of course, it still looks like I'm not taking any courses over the summer so I'll just be marking and doing some reading to try and hone in on a possible research topic. Overall, a fairly low key summer, but I'm not complaining, mind you!

Anyway, the colour project has a webpage write-up for it which I posted to my project blog (link a couple posts down) but I'll link it again here for good measure:

Artists' Paint Mixing Simulation

Unless one is interested in some of the technical details, the results section is probably the most interesting to look at as it has most of the pictures.

I have to say I rather liked the project and think it turned out fairly well. I wasn't doing anything nearly this cool at work, so I think this just confirms for me that going back to school was the more-or-less right thing to do.

Anyway, I'm probably going to spend most of the afternoon playing FF X-2 and may even manage to finish it up so the summary post for that may be coming in the not to distant future.

High King and Other Rambling

The term is more-or-less finished.

My only exam for the term was this past Wednesday (and I thought it was fairly easy) and I finished the last of my TA duties on Friday. Marking the final was less painful than I was expecting, and I was able to avoid having to proctor by volunteering to help enter marks. In the end, I think that mark entering was certainly the better end of the deal.

Went hiking yesterday along part of the Bruce trail with the usual group. It was a wonderful day for hiking, if a tad on the windy side, so overall a good break from school stuff.

I've also been working along on my project for the colour course (which is the main thing I've got left) and have been updating the blog for it (link in the post beneath this one) so interested parties should give it a glance - it's starting to produce some interesting visuals, so go look at the pictures if nothing else.

Course Project

I've decided to try blogging my progress on my project for CS 781 (the colour course) which will be located in its own blog:

Just When You Thought it was Safe to go Outside...

So, before heading to school this morning I look out the window and see this (taken at about 10:00 AM):

/sigh

Not, I suppose, that this is unheard of for this time of year, but I don't have to like it, dammit!

Normally I work at home on Mondays since there's usually nothing I have to be on campus for, but we had our last marking meeting today, meaning we've got the last batch of assignments to mark for the term. Why it just wasn't on the Friday like normal, I don't know. Anywho... one of the assignments in my batch is just a resubmit of the previous assignment. Part of me wonders if this was just an honest mistake on the part of the student, but from what I know of how the submission process works, they'd have to have actively renamed the assignment files which makes me think it wasn't a mistake. Additionally, this assignment has one more question than the previous assignment and the last question in the submission is duplicated which even more leads me to think that this is just an attempt to get sympathy marks or something. Oh well, makes it easy to mark, at any rate.

Well, that's all.

End of Term Report

Classes have ended for my first term back in school. This also means that the termly UW orchestra concert was this past week. Overall, it seems to have gone pretty well. I know I slipped up in places and I think I played some things better during rehearsals, but still it seemed like things went well. Now there's a month before orchestra starts up again for the summer (presuming they do something for the summer) which means that my cello is more than likely going to be sitting in its case for the next month, despite my best intentions of pulling it out and playing a bit - I always mean to, but it never actually happens.

Also, today was the FASS AGM. Now, the AGM is kinda dull, really as it's mostly just business. The only particularly interesting thing is that the theme for next year's show is selected during the meeting. A theme brain storming meeting was held early during the week and a short list was presented at the AGM. We had 4 themes to vote on: Disney, King Arthur, Video Games and Zombies/Survival Horror. Video games won the vote (with Disney coming in second), so that's the theme for FASS 2010.

Anywho, that, as they say, is that, for the present.

P.S.

I'm happy that the Video Games theme won, as it's one of the ideas I've mentioned from time to time (I didn't bring it up at the theme meeting, but I have mentioned it in the past).
